Sightseeing Switzerland

Jessica and Lisa went from seeing each other every day in their small college apartment to Texas Tech graduates that lived 4 hours driving distance from one another. After half a year of dwindling phone calls and pure exhaustion from their 9-5’s, Lisa said enough. There’s a deal for a last minute flight to Switzerland, and they were going! With missed connecting flights due to unpredictable delays and an impromptu backpacking experience in Washington DC, our two jetsetters found themselves in Zurich only a day late. Flying internationally was not Lisa’s first rodeo, so in planning their itinerary, she left their alleged first day completely blank. Would they sleep the whole day due to jet lag? Would they hit the bar scene? Would they stumble on a farmers market? No, instead, they found themselves walking from one iconic monument to the next. Before heading back to the airport, though, they stopped by a small pub behind the White House to partake in the the most delicately cooked poached eggs and lightly breaded and seasoned oysters which together consisted of the best eggs benedict that Lisa has ever eaten to this day.

However, on day 2, she booked a tour that consisted of driving the girls from Zurich to Lucerne where the sightseeing would begin. At the end of the tour, they would say their early goodbyes to the group and check into their hotel in Lucerne. Little did they know that they would actually land 1 hour before that tour began. Unfamiliar with any public transportation, they hailed a taxi and loaded in their tour’s bus 5 minutes before the tour left. They traveled the country forcing themselves to take pictures through the giant windows to stay awake, but they still found themselves occasionally dozing off. Finally, they reached their destination, and they stood face to face with the great Lion of Lucerne. This larger than life stone carving across a pool of water commemorates the fallen Swiss Soldiers in the French Revolution. After taking photos around downtown where every turn looked like a postcard, the two sat down for lunch before rejoining the group for the last leg of their tour. Before their departure, Jessica had been tentative at the idea of skiing since it would be her first time, but Lisa’s argued that they knew no one that could say their first skiing experience was in Switzerland in prime season? Jessica only conceded because the tour’s stop at Mount Titlis catered toward skiing novices. While Jessica learned on the bunny slopes, Lisa returned to the only slope available to the group again, again, and again before the tour concluded. Exhausted, fulfilled, and finally done backpacking around the world, the best friends got some shut eye as their friendship rekindled and adventure abroad began.
